Ingredients

  • 200 gm. paneer cottage cheese
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tomato finely chopped
  • 1 tsp. chopped garlic
  • 2-3 green chillies finely chopped
  • coriander and mint leaves finely chopped for garnish
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin seeds
  • 1/2 cup shelled green peas optional
  • 1/2 tsp. garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp. green chilli powder optional
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Crumble your cottage cheese (paneer) by hand and keep aside.
  2. Heat butter in a pan. Add cumin seeds.
  3. Let them sputter.
  4. Now add finely chopped onions and fry them for 2 minutes.
  5. Add green chillies, chopped garlic and tomatoes and fry for about 2 minutes.
  6. Add the crumbled paneer along with turmeric powder, chilli powder (if using), garam masala and salt. Add peas if using. Mix well.
  7. Cook for about 4 minutes on low flame. Don’t overcook. You want paneer to stay soft.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  9. Garnish with chopped mint and coriander leaves and serve hot.
  10. Delicious paneer bhurji is ready to serve.

Recipe Notes

This quick easy recipe is delightfully tasty even when at room temperature.
Goes very well with rotis or parathas.
You can add other vegetables like mushroom, capsicum etc. though peas are the best.
You can use oil instead of butter but butter does taste better.
Some people garnish with some melted butter. I prefer not to.

Preparing paneer bhurji is so easy. I would prefer using ghee to prepare it. Do you have a recipe of egg bhurji on your blog? I would like to experiment with it and see if D will accept eating it.

So nice of you, Rachna to share the egg bhurji recipe. It was eye opening in the sense I had thought of it as to first boil the eggs and then scramble and add them to the onion tomato mixture in the pan. I intend to make it for dinner today.

I LOVE paneer in any recipe..and paneer bhurji is a favourite–can have it all day, every day!I know that sounds exaggerated, but, really…I mean it! And, with toasted bread slice, it goes so well! ❤

We all love paneer bhurji, without the peas though. We have it once a week at least. It’s so easy to make I reserve it for the days the maid bunks.
