Simple and delicious paneer bhurji recipe that you can rustle up in a jiffy. Makes for a perfect breakfast, meal or lunchbox choice.
Recipe type: Main
Cuisine: Indian
Serves: 4
  • 200 gm paneer (cottage cheese)
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tomato finely chopped
  • 1 tsp. chopped garlic
  • 2-3 green chillies finely chopped
  • finely chopped coriander and mint leaves for garnish
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • ½ tsp. cumin seeds
  • ½ cup shelled green peas (optional)
  • ½ tsp. garam masala
  • ½ tsp. green chilli powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp. turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  1. Crumble your cottage cheese (paneer) by hand and keep aside.
  2. Heat butter in a pan. Add cumin seeds.
  3. Let them sputter.
  4. Now add finely chopped onions and fry them for 2 minutes.
  5. Add green chillies, chopped garlic and tomatoes and fry for about 2 minutes.
  6. Add the crumbled paneer along with turmeric powder, chilli powder (if using), garam masala and salt. Add peas if using. Mix well.
  7. Cook for about 4 minutes on low flame. Don't overcook. You want paneer to stay soft.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  9. Garnish with chopped mint and coriander leaves and serve hot.
  10. Delicious paneer bhurji is ready to serve.
This quick easy recipe is delightfully tasty even when at room temperature.
Goes very well with rotis or parathas.
You can add other vegetables like mushroom, capsicum etc. though peas are the best.
You can use oil instead of butter but butter does taste better.
Some people garnish with some melted butter. I prefer not to.

      1. So nice of you, Rachna to share the egg bhurji recipe. It was eye opening in the sense I had thought of it as to first boil the eggs and then scramble and add them to the onion tomato mixture in the pan. I intend to make it for dinner today.

  1. I LOVE paneer in any recipe..and paneer bhurji is a favourite–can have it all day, every day!I know that sounds exaggerated, but, really…I mean it! And, with toasted bread slice, it goes so well! ❤

  2. Looks yummy! I have never tasted paneer bhurji, though egg bhurji is a favorite in our house. Will try this recipe. Thanks, Rachna.
I tried your easy potato roast recipe and my son loved it. Thank you. 😀
